Punkduck's Plugin release Blog 2026

Hey everybody from a country where Halloween is more or less ignored except from those selling stuff to the kids :)

At least it is as dark as in North America :)

Most Elv already mentioned when we talk about Makehuman 2! But I will add a few comments as well. In the beginning it was not expected that Makehuman 2 will deal with plugins. I was not sure if a precompiled version with pyInstaller or nsis will ever work with that. Elv proved it works and meanwhile we also know why.

Whereas the nsis version is more or less a python environment in a container with all sources still contained and where libraries must be mentioned, pyInstaller creates a running object which also contains the python interpreter itself. This of course can be used to add “non-compiled” code. A source code version like debian will always work.

pyInstaller is the base for Steam and now one could add more tools in steam later.

Of course we also learnt that we need to add more documented endpoints in the software, which will make it easy to add new plugins. This will be improved, but I have to admit that the structure itself was not that bad (light plugin did e.g. not need new endpoints). Some others needed an improvement in the base version, like e.g. “strip all clothes” for the outfit-plugin. I already tried to explain most the endpoints in the nerds pages. For sure there will be additional endpoints in the future.

So if you want to add a plugin and miss something, join discord and simply ask us.

As you may have noticed old makehuman forum is more or less gone. That also means that the asset downloader of single assets does no longer work. We will try to add a replacement soonish. But it will be written to work with sets mainly.

At the moment you may have noticed a few sets are on github already. We partly need to restructure them to allow loading them flawlessly. We will also check the assets and improve some of them (call it moderation), since e.g. wrong pathnames lead to questions and we cannot reach the original authors (reason: on windows path names are not case sensitive, they are on linux and if texture names mentioned in material files are wrong no textures will be shown).

Btw.: The path name determination inside makehuman was changed as well and could result in new errors according to good old Murphy. Programmers know what I mean.

I already put the old wonderwoman collection with new materials on patreon and also on github. We will add more soon.

We have a Steam Linux version meanwhile. We created it with an ubuntu 26.4 and we also use pyInstaller like with Windows. It will only run on newer Linux systems since there was a major change in the c-libraries compared to old version. That, btw. was the reason why I failed with the first try …
